Position Description

Accounting and Administration EDGE Intern supports the daily operations of the Business Office through hands-on experience in accounting processes, financial reconciliations, data management, and administrative support. This position provides practical exposure to accounting systems, financial reporting, business operations, and professional office practices.

Through direct involvement in accounting and administrative functions, interns gain valuable experience working with financial data, business software, reconciliation processes, and organizational systems while developing skills applicable to careers in accounting, finance, business administration, and related fields.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Reconciliation

  • Process and organize accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with credit card transaction tracking, categorization, and reconciliation activities.
  • Reconcile receipt batches and financial records using institutional accounting systems.
  • Support investment reconciliation activities and financial record verification processes.

Financial Systems & Data Management

  • Utilize Excel, Jenzabar, ExpensePoint, and related systems to support accounting and administrative operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with data organization, tracking, and reporting activities.
  • Support office efforts to ensure financial information is processed accurately and efficiently.

Process Documentation & Special Projects

  • Assist with special projects related to accounting operations, audits, digitization efforts, and system implementation.
  • Create training and reference materials for new financial systems and campus processes.
  • Develop user-friendly documentation that supports effective use of business office technologies.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

EDGE Interns gain hands-on experience in accounting operations, financial reconciliations, business systems, data management, and process documentation.

Project opportunities may include supporting software implementation efforts, creating training materials, assisting with audit preparation activities, and contributing to process improvement initiatives within the Business Office.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled Converse University student in good academic standing.
  • Accounting or Business major preferred.
  • Junior or senior standing preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Dependable, conscientious, and committed to accuracy.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Lifting and carrying materials.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and feedback throughout the academic year. Supervisors provide guidance on accounting practices, workplace expectations, professional development, and business operations.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.
