About the Converse EDGE Internship Program

The Converse EDGE Internship Program provides students with meaningful, career-connected experiences that integrate professional skill development with hands-on workplace learning. Through mentorship, reflection, assessment, and practical application, EDGE Interns develop the career readiness competencies employers seek while making valuable contributions to campus departments and programs.

Position Description

The Department Operations & Communications EDGE Intern supports communications, student engagement, recruitment, and administrative initiatives within the Department of Language, Literature, and Media. Working approximately five hours per week, the intern contributes to departmental operations while collaborating with the supervisor to identify one or two priority projects each semester based on departmental needs and the student's interests and strengths.

This position provides hands-on experience in professional communication, project development, event support, recruitment, information management, and career exploration while helping students connect humanities education to a variety of professional pathways.

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Recruitment

  • Draft, edit, and format flyers, announcements, newsletter content, emails, and promotional materials.
  • Support outreach and recruitment efforts for department majors, minors, events, and student opportunities.

Department Support & Engagement

  • Assist with departmental communications, event planning, student engagement initiatives, and resource development.
  • Support faculty and departmental projects through information gathering, content updates, research, and organizational support.

Projects & Resource Development

  • Complete one or two semester-long projects based on departmental priorities and personal interests.
  • Projects may focus on career development resources, student engagement, recruitment, departmental communications, event support, curriculum research, or academic resource development.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

EDGE Interns gain experience in communications, writing, editing, recruitment, project management, event support, and career exploration while developing a portfolio of professional materials and projects.

  • Develop professional writing and communication skills by creating materials for students, faculty, alumni, and prospective students.

  • Utilize Canva, Canvas, Foxit Editor, email platforms, spreadsheets, and other digital tools to create, edit, organize, and distribute information.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled Converse University student in good academic standing.
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing preferred.
  • English, German Studies, Communications, or related majors encouraged to apply.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving direction.
  • Interest in writing, editing, communications, recruitment, event support, career development, or humanities student success.
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Lifting and carrying materials as needed.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and feedback throughout the academic year. Supervisors provide guidance on project development, professional communication, workplace expectations, and career readiness skill development.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

  • Duration: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
  • Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Determined in coordination with the supervisor
  • Positions will remain open until filled. Hiring timelines vary by department, and some supervisors may move more quickly through the interview and selection process than others. Early application is encouraged.
