Position Description

The Performance Production & Operations EDGE Intern supports the successful execution of concerts, recitals, performances, auditions, and special events within the Petrie School of Music. Serving as a key member of the production team, the intern assists with stage management, audio and video recording, livestream operations, technical support, audience engagement, archival projects, and daily operational needs.

This position provides hands-on experience in performance production, event operations, audio and video technology, digital content management, audience services, and arts administration. Through direct involvement in more than 150 annual performances and events, interns develop transferable skills applicable to careers in music, performing arts management, event production, audio engineering, arts administration, and related fields.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Production & Technical Support

  • Manage stage setup, stage transitions, backstage support, and performance logistics for concerts, recitals, and special events.
  • Operate audio and video recording equipment, livestream technology, and production systems for performances and events.
  • Provide technical support for lighting, projection, microphones, and audio-visual equipment.

Digital Media & Content Management

  • Edit and publish performance recordings and digital media content.
  • Maintain the Petrie School of Music YouTube channel by uploading and organizing recital, concert, and event recordings.
  • Assist with digital and physical archival projects that support accreditation, historical preservation, and institutional records.

Audience Engagement & School Operations

  • Serve as a point of contact for audience members during performances and events.
  • Act as a student ambassador for prospective students and families.
  • Lead tours of the Blackman Music Building and represent the Petrie School of Music during recruitment activities.

Qualifications

  • Preferred majors include Music, Dance, and Theatre.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and production needs.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Preference given to students with technical interests or experience related to audio, video, lighting, projection, or production systems.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and YouTube preferred.
  • Willingness to troubleshoot problems and contribute as part of a team.
  • Must be in good academic standing with the University and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Lifting and carrying materials.
  • Participation in event setup, breakdown, and performance operations.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and informal feedback from Petrie School of Music staff throughout the academic year. Students receive training in performance production, technical operations, audience engagement, digital media management, and professional workplace expectations.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

  • Duration: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
  • Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Determined in coordination with the supervisor.
  • Positions will remain open until filled. Hiring timelines vary by department, and some supervisors may move more quickly through the interview and selection process than others. Early application is encouraged.
