Manufacturing Digital Transformation Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW 

This internship provides hands-on experience supporting Milliken's manufacturing digital transformation priorities through a blend of manufacturing data, Operational Technology (OT), workflow improvement, and emerging digital tools. The intern will evaluate how plant data, forms, workflows, batch sheets, and manufacturing applications are currently used across the organization and identify opportunities to simplify, connect, contextualize, or modernize these processes. Depending on the selected candidate's strengths, the project scope may emphasize manufacturing data platforms and OT connectivity or digital workflow consolidation, low-code applications, and AI-enabled tool evaluation. 

The intern will work with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, and IT stakeholders to complete discovery, assess technology options, and develop a practical recommendation, pilot proposal, or implementation path that supports Milliken's broader manufacturing technology roadmap. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inventory and analyze manufacturing data sources, plant applications, digital forms, workflows, batch sheets, and related tools used across production, quality, safety, maintenance, and environmental processes.
  • Research and evaluate manufacturing data, OT connectivity, workflow automation, low-code, and AI-enabled tools, including options for data contextualization, forms generation, application modernization, and digital batch sheets.
  • Document business, data, integration, security, usability, support, and manufacturing requirements through stakeholder discovery sessions.
  • Compare technology options based on manufacturing fit, OT connectivity, data modeling, workflow capability, cost of ownership, integration, security, scalability, supportability, and business value.
  • Identify a focused use case or pilot opportunity that aligns with Manufacturing priorities and can be tailored to the intern's strengths in data, systems, process improvement, or digital tools.
  • Develop a technology scorecard, consolidation recommendation, pilot proposal, and practical path to implementation.
  • Present findings, supporting analysis, and recommendations to Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, and IT leaders. 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED 

  • Candidates with or working toward a BS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Data Science, or related field.
  • Relevant coursework in manufacturing systems, automation and controls, operations management, process improvement, industrial networking, database systems, data analytics, application development, systems analysis, or industrial statistics.
  • Strong user of Microsoft Office tools and comfortable learning new technology platforms.
  • Ability to research technical topics, gather requirements, analyze information, document findings, and communicate recommendations clearly.
